Cape Town Squad Industry Movie Night featuring Best of SUPP Short Films

25 April 2022 @ 6:30 pm - 10:00 pm SAST

Join us for the next Cape Town Squad Movie Night at the Grand Daddy Boutique Hotel on May 25th at 7pm. This event is for actors, filmmakers and movie lovers and is organized by filmmakers. The theme is Best of SUPP and you will watch some of the Best Films on their platform from South Africa and meet the directors in the Q&A.

This is an evening of movies, meeting filmmakers and enjoying food & drink specials on the scenic rooftop of Cape Town’s legendary Grand Daddy Hotel. The screening will include the behind the scenes videos of the films as well as an exclusive Q&A (Live and Virtual) with the filmmakers.

SUPP is a unique streaming platform for local artists to earn revenue from their productions.

You the viewer have access to fresh home-grown entertainment and have a role in developing our film industry.

The following films will be screening along with directors present for Q/A: To be Announced Closer to the time.

FILMS Shown at previous Movie Night:

Fine Lines directed by Kyndra Kennedy (Los Angeles) (Kyndra won prizes in the My Rode Reel competition in 2018, 2019 and 2020!)

A story about women who have internalized the belief that “as we age, beauty fades” and our social value diminishes.

Amanzi Olwandle “Ocean Water” directed by Timothy Hay (South Africa)

This entry to the “My Rode Reel 2020” competition won the Judges choice and is based on a true story about a Surfer (Avo) that lost his brother (Zama) to a tragic shark attack when they were young boys at their home break in Port St John’s. The ocean is the link that bonds the two in spirit.

Xolani directed by Tao Ferren (South Africa)

Xolani tells the personal story of a circus performer, and the lessons he has learnt from experiencing trauma from the most unexpected source

Moments in Time directed by Paula Zapata (South Africa)

We embarked on a journey to shoot in a hidden gem in the forest of Uilenkraalsmond, Gansbaai, a two and a half hour drive from Cape Town, South Africa. Nestled in a blanket of trees in a small wooden cabin, we challenged ourselves to shoot a piece of wonder in two days in the dreamy surrounding area. It’s safe to say that our memories of this weekend will forever stay in our hearts.
