Oranjezicht City Farm – BOTANICAL EMBROIDERY WORKSHOP

Learn the basics of hand embroidery techniques, with a twist: botanical themes! This is a great opportunity if you love plants and crafts. You will start by learning the basics of hand embroidery: threading a needle, learning about fabrics, choosing threads, color theory, and of course, getting to know various plants in the garden and using them as inspiration. You will learn step by step how to start and finish your first project. After the workshop, you will take home an embroidery kit with all the materials to keep on creating in your own time.
Date: Saturday 2nd of April 2022
Location: Oranjezicht City Farm. 87 Upper Orange Street, Oranjezicht.

Instructor: Ana Maria, owner of her own Embroidery business, Bordarbordar, is from Costa Rica but is currently living in Cape Town. She is also a garden enthusiast and a landscape architect.
(1) the fundamentals of the materials used for embroidery (fabric, threads, hoop and needle), how to prepare them and work with them.
(2) a quick introduction to color theory using plants around the farm as reference
(3) the basic embroidery stitches used in floral and botanical embroidery
(4) how to start and finish a small embroidery project.
N.B. This is a workshop perfect for beginners, no experience or knowledge needed. Intended for participants +10yrs.
Each participant will be provided with a kit including all the materials needed for the workshop.
