The Cableway Charity Challenge 2022

12 May 2022

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every day that begins at 12:00 am, repeating until 15 May 2022

The #CablewayCharityChallenge is an exciting annual fundraising event that is held on the iconic Table Mountain. This year, it takes place from 7 to 15 May 2022 in support of nominated beneficiaries.  The event sees professional athletes, intrepid individuals and corporate teams ascending Platteklip Gorge as many times as possible – on race day (7 May 2022) for corporate teams, and throughout the event week for individuals.
This annual charity challenge enables us to give back to organisations and individuals in need of our support.
Runners are granted free passage on all downward cable car trips, offering a breather between ascents. Funds are raised by runners via sponsorship pledges from friends, family and colleagues, in an easy to follow process on our website. Help us achieve our R1 million in pledges by challenging yourself and friends. SIGN UP TODAY! https://fal.cn/3nGOy

The Cableway Charity Challenge has been running since 2009 when a field of 50 runners ascended Table Mountain via Platteklip Gorge as many times as they could between sunrise and sunset for charity. They raised just over R550,000 in that first year. Since then, this annual event has grown significantly with just under 199 runners completing a cumulative total of 792 ascents in 2019 and raising R1 084 211 for charity. The 2020 event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic but is back in 2021 in a slightly different format to accommodate ongoing COVID restrictions. Visit our website www.charitychallenge.co.za for more information on this year’s event.
The event is solely run by volunteers who fall under the umbrella of the JDI Foundation Trust, an organisation that has been committed to making a difference since 1998. JDI members pool their funds and, more importantly, their time, resources and skills to uplift the local community organisations around them, often supporting projects that cannot access formal funding.
